How and when did you discover yoga?

I discovered yoga during college. I went to my first group yoga class and afterwards I felt calmer and more relaxed than I had in a long time. From there I continued to learn and practice in public classes and at home on my own. I started practicing and learning more about meditation as well. One day I showed some young campers at the summer camp where I was working some ways to stretch and relax, and their positive responses sparked something in me that made me want to continue sharing this experience. I decided to get certified to be a yoga teacher and I’ve continued to learn and grow in my spiritual and physical practice ever since.

What yoga teachers have influenced you?

My first yoga teacher that I had in college was a huge influence because she was the first one to show me that I had the power within myself to become centered and at peace.

Jesse Amesmith from YogaVibe in Rochester is also incredibly inspiring. She is one of the best yoga teachers I have ever had and I learn something new every time I take a class with her. She inspires me daily.

What is the most rewarding part of being a yoga teacher?

Being able to teach people how to get in touch with themselves and how to be at home in their own bodies is extremely rewarding.  I love helping people to understand that they have the power within them at all times to center, breathe, relax and just be.

What can students expect from your classes?

Students can expect to be welcomed into a place that is accepting and accommodating. I strive to help people of all levels and experience feel comfortable and capable. I focus heavily on connecting the mind, body, and breath and on listening to your intuition as we move on the mat.

What is one yoga pose you love, and why?

I love Supta Baddha Konasana - reclined bound angle pose because it allows me to surrender and gives me a deep hip release while also feeling supported by the floor and the props.

What is your favorite quote?

From Eckhart Tolle:

“You are not separate from the whole. You are one with the sun, the earth, the air. You don’t have a life, You are life.”
